About the Work
This painting by Robert Sweeney is of the butcher's stall, Chez Andre, which was situated in the Guernsey market building before its refurbishment.
Sweeney is inspired by the people and landscape which surrounds him, capturing everyday life on the island. His work helps us to see what we might view as mundane through fresh and more receptive eyes. In today's ever-changing environment these artworks not only help us appreciate what is around us, but also what is no longer there.
