The Queen's Official Birthday
Saturday 9 June
Culture & Heritage will be marking Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth's Birthday with free entry to Guernsey Museums.
The sites open for free are Castle Cornet, Fort Grey, Guernsey Museum at Candie and the German Naval Signals HQ. At Castle Cornet there will be a 21 gun salute at noon.
Also at Castle Cornet, there will be activities to mark 100 years of the RAF. Visitors can discover and learn more about the history of the air force and purchase merchandise on sale. Nearby, the Guernsey Military History Company will be dressed in period costume of 1918 and hosting a 'new arrivals' tent. Visitors can imagine what it might have been like to sign up to the newly formed RAF 100 years ago. There'll be the chance to see original objects, ask questions and of course visit the RAF 201 Squadron Museum. At 12.30 and 2.15pm there will be an engaging living history performance from the Guernsey History in Action Company. The presentation brings alive the story of Rex Warneford, who won the VC in 1915 as the first man to destroy a Zeppelin.
Here are the opening times for the day:
Castle Cornet: 10.00-17.00 (RAF events finish at 16.00)
Fort Grey: 10.00-16.30
Guernsey Museum at Candie: 10.00-17.00
German Naval Signals HQ: 12.30-16.30
