Blue Tits by Kevin Hickman

Blue Tits

Artist: Kevin Hickman (born 1957)

Medium:  chromacolour

Status:  permanent collection GMAG 1997.16

Kevin Hickman was born in Guernsey and went to St Peter Port Secondary School. He left school at fifteen with no formal qualifications, but always had a love of drawing and continued after he left school.

At the age of eighteen some friends encouraged him to try watercolors:

"Which began the long and at times frustrating road in teaching myself to paint.

I experimented with different mediums, but only ever trying to paint in a lifelike way. During this time I began to paint birds as a main subject and it was also around this time that I became aware of the work of a New Zealand born artist, Raymond Harris Ching, whose early watercolourpaintings are wonderfully detailed and life like. Inspired by Harris Chingswork I had a real desire to try and create detailed wildlife and bird paintings."

Kevin's love and aesthetic understanding of birds and other wild creatures is evident in his work. He captures these illusive glimpses of nature for us to enjoy at our leisure.

He has exhibited at the Coach House Gallery and has been part of a number of charity exhibitions, including those raising money for the Guernsey RSPB group.
