The Artist and her Work
Molly Harris was born in Guernsey, and studied at the Carlisle and Edinburgh Colleges of Art, returning to Guernsey in 1969. Harris has two distinctive styles, one which uses expressive colours and brushstrokes, verging on the abstract and the other uses intricate almost miniaturist detail. In many of her paintings these two styles are combined, creating a layering of colour and form.
We can see this combination in her painting Winter, 2000. Larger areas of colour are punctuated by delicately applied forms, and although a dark pallet is used, a feeling of light and translucency is present within the painting.
