2016 August & September Artwork of the Month

Blue Tank by Paul Bisson

Blue Tank

Artist:  Paul Bisson (b. 1938)

Medium:  Watercolour

Status: permanent collection

This recently acquired work by Paul Bisson is typical of his highly detailed style. Bisson chooses to capture picturesque landscapes as well as the forgotten and hidden. The compositions and viewing points are often unexpected, turning the usual into the unusual. Familiar landscapes are presented in surprising ways, making us take a second look at things we thought were familiar.

Guernsey Born artist Paul Bisson studied at the St. Martin's School of Art from 1955-1958 and then at the Royal Academy School from 1959-1961. In the early sixties Bisson worked and exhibited in Spain, mainly working in oils. In the early seventies he returned to London producing a major series of drawings and watercolours of derelict shop fronts and urban decay.

More recently Bisson has dedicated much of his time to producing etchings, predominantly landscape. He has gained an international reputation and his work can be found in private and corporate collections throughout the world.
