2018: Hugo - Visions of Exile

Hugo: Visions in Exile poster 2018

This prestigious exhibition highlighted a lesser-known talent of Victor Hugo's - his art.

Dr Jason Monaghan explained, "Over the past couple of years we have been in negotiation with the Bibliotheque Nationale de France and the Maison de Victor Hugo, Paris, to borrow these artworks. It is four decades since a major exhibition of Hugo's art has been shown outside France, so this is something of a coup for Guernsey."

The ambitious project was made possible through generous sponsorship by Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management. Chris Colclough, Head of Portfolio Management, Guernsey said "Victor Hugo is one of Guernsey's most famous residents and although he lived here in exile, he made the Island his home and created some of his most celebrated works here. Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management is proud to support Guernsey Museum with this initiative as part of our continued commitment to enabling local sporting, community and cultural events".

We are very grateful to our sponsors and to the lending institutions for enabling this to happen.

We issued a daily tweet on our @guernseymuseums Twitter feed during the exhibition.

A 'Hugo Fun Pack' was created for families by our work experience students.  You can download this below.

Dates of the exhibition: 22 June - 9 Sept 2018
