Image Licensing

Guernsey Museums & Galleries and other parties hold the copyright to the images, design, and text in our website. The contents of the website are available for personal use and may be accessed or downloaded for the sole purpose of non-commercial research and private study, or for fair use as defined in the Guernsey copyright law. Any such use must be properly attributed to Guernsey Museums & Galleries, The States of Guernsey and the artist, as applicable.

Manipulation or redistribution in any form for commercial use, including publication, or for personal gain is strictly prohibited without further permission. Requests for all uses should be made to the Registrar. Please include the following information with your request:

  • What image is required?
  • How will it be used e.g. print/book/website, etc.? If a book, will it be used on the cover?
  • What size will it be reproduced at? (i.e. dpi, final print size)
  • What is the print run or licence term?
  • In what countries will it be distributed?
  • What is the timescale of your project?

Each request is considered separately, and permission is granted on a case-by-case basis at the sole discretion of Guernsey Museums & Galleries. Usage fees apply depending on the type and nature of the intended use.

Please note that the picture library can only supply images of works that remain within copyright (where the artist or photographer is alive, or where they died less than 70 years ago) if prior written permission has been sought from the copyright holder. Please provide a copy of this permission when submitting your reproduction request.
