Photographic Collection

Since the advent of photography, many artists have captured aspects of Guernsey life and landscapes through the lens.
The Museum Service holds a large collection of mainly sepia and black & white photographic prints as well as glass-plate negatives ranging from the late 19th Century to the mid-20th Century. They cover the full range of topics within island-life including maritime subjects, local architecture, agriculture, horticulture and general social history. In addition there are numerous photographs of people and island events as well as a small collection of photographs from the German Occupation during WWII.
The Museum is also the owner of the photographic collection of Dr Frank Neubert FRPS (1901 - 2001). It is also currently the repository for the David Family Maritime Photographic Archive which chronicles shipping in the Channel Islands from the late 19th Century to the mid-20th Century.
